God’s Favourite

After getting stranded in regional Victoria without medication for the first time in twelve years, Scout Boxall has to pull out all the psychological stops to survive one of the worst nights of their life. During their harrowing mental marathon through manic withdrawal, Scout imagines life in the middle ages, trawls the strangest crevices of the Internet and (briefly) finds God.

Directed by Dylan Murphy (Pinder Prize 2023, Golden Gibbo 2024), God’s Favourite is an exquisite, harrowing, darkly funny, part storytelling, part theatre, part stand up, all raw and unflinchingly real. With original music and sound design, God’s Favourite transports the audience through space and time and gently deposits them in Scout’s brain, where they can watch the chaos unfold.

Scout debuted a work in progress reading of God’s Favourite at Melbourne Fringe in 2024, where it sold out, added additional shows and snagged a nomination for “Best Comedy”.

Judge’s Praise for God’s Favourite at Melbourne Fringe

“Deftly handling some big themes with dark humour and concise, punchy writing.”

“Get in to see this work in progress while you can! Scout’s new work is dark, funny and captivating with an hour passing by in the blink of an eye.”

“This work in progress needs very little additional work if it set out to be hilarious, poignant, relatable and completely unrelatable all at once.”
